The Mid-MO Doula Resource Group was founded in the summer of 2007.
We provide information on childbirth options, and can discuss your birth preferences with you to see if they are compatible with standard practices in your intended place of birth. We can connect you with information about the benefits & risks associated with hospital birth compared to home birth, and how those benefits & risks may vary at different hospitals or with different styles of homebirth. The Mid-MO Doula Resource Group offers assistance finding a compatible & available doula for your religion or culture and your birth preferences and philosophy. We are dedicated to making doula services accessible to every birthing woman so that every family can have the best possible start physically, emotionally, and psychologically. We firmly believe that a better birth is the start to a better family & a better life.
Doulas work to help you achieve your ideal birth experience. They can offer individualized childbirth education, pregnancy & labor massage, and relaxation techniques. Doulas will recommend labor and birth positions, offer non-medical pain relief, and provide postpartum and breastfeeding support. It is particularly helpful to work with a doula if you intend to have a natural (un-medicated & non-surgical) hospital birth, if you are planning a vaginal birth after a prior cesarean, or if you had a dissatisfying prior birth and are hoping for a better experience this time around.
Local doulas have experience with Cesarean prevention, Vaginal Birth after Cesarean, bridging the medical/natural gap, waterbirth, aromatherapy, epidurals, high-risk pregnancy, newborn numerology, prenatal/labor bellydancing, adoptions, LGBT families, single moms, teen moms, moms over 35, low-resource families, bonding/attachment, postpartum depression, prior traumas or losses, and a variety of cultures, ethnic groups & religions.
We are just finishing the process of obtaining not-for-profit status by becoming the Central Missouri chapter of Birth Network National. As a not-for-profit we will be fundraising & applying for grants so that we will be able to offer subsidized doula & childbirth education services to Missouri families who lack the financial resources to otherwise get the support they need. Donations, fundraising assistance, and assistance with the grant process will be welcome shortly. Ask us about other options in the meantime if you are in need of doula services but unable to afford them.
